Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) is a pan-African banking group with operations in 36 African countries. The bank was established as a bank holding company in 1985 under a private sector initiative. Initially the group’s operations were focused on the West African region but later on the group expanded its network into Central, East and Southern Africa. Ecobank also has international offices in Paris, London, Dubai and Beijing.
The bank provides banking services to governments, multinational and local companies, SMEs and individuals. Its business operations are separated into three segments: Corporate Banking, Domestic Banking and Ecobank Capital.
The Corporate Bank segment offers financial solutions to global and regional corporates and international organizations. The product portfolio includes pan-African lending, trade services, cash management and value chain finance.
The Domestic Bank provides financial products and services to retail, local corporate, public sector and microfinance customers.
Ecobank Capital provides treasury, corporate finance and investment banking, securities and asset management solutions to corporate and governmental customers.
In 2008 Ecobank formed an alliance with Nedbank, a South African bank, which owns a 20% stake in Ecobank. The group has partnerships with various mobile telecommunication companies to expand its mobile money services.
